Overview
The relaxed and calming atmosphere of the sea-side town of Essaouira is enough to make any tourist want to visit, but the festival help yearly since 1998 draws people from across the world to witness the enchanting music. Gnawa, descendants of the slaves brought to Morocco years ago, have established their own enchanting culture within the country, and along with it beautiful music that makes use of both African and Islamic influences, traditions and instruments. The artists who play at the festival are often world-renowned, ranging from traditional style Gnawa music to contemporary and hip-hop music, drawing large and diverse crowds to the festival that is both a celebration and remembrance of the Gnawa culture.

What to Expect
On the way from Marrakech to the wonderful sea-side town of Essaouira, you will pass through many beautiful and varied landscapes and still arrive with the afternoon to spare. You will have some time in this city to enjoy the festival and explore it’s beaches before you depart for Rabat, travelling through Casablanca and the Hassan II Mosque, Rabat, Fes and Meknes. You will have stop overs at the royal palace and the Jewish district of Mellah. You will also be able to visit the holy Islamic City of Moulay Idriss and visit the World Heritage Site of Volubilis. On the return trip to Marrakech, you will pass through the Atlas Mountains and the accompanying small Berber villages of Beni Melal, Ifrane and Immouzer and taking in their cultural traditions and wonderful welcoming attitude as you pass.
