Marrakech Tour Through the Festival of Popular Arts
Marrakech Tour Through the Festival of Popular Arts
Overview
This festival is a week long and one of the most popular in Morocco, where spectators flock from around the country to witness the mingling of culture, music and art against the backdrop of the well-preserved 16th century El Badi Palace. The Berber’s play a large role in this festival, travelling from the High Atlas Mountains to perform their traditional folk music, as well as the Gwanas from the south and the Andalus-inspired musicians from the North. This festival is enchanting and magical, and is great for anyone looking to experience what Morocco, in all of it’s varying regions, has to offer through culture and music, as well as those who enjoy a variety of local cuisine and appreciate the work of the craftsmen from across the country.

What to Expect
You will have almost three days in Marrakech to explore the festival, enjoy it’s entertainment and take part in it’s activities without having to do any travel at all. Use this time to explore the city and it’s incredible sights. From Marrakech you will travel across the High Atlas via the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass and down through Dades Gorge to Merzouga via the Rissani Oasis before reaching the desert dunes. This is a track of splendidly varied landscape and colour and across the few days you will witness the colours of true Moroccan landscapes. From the dunes, you will ride camels into the desert, spending a night amongst a traditional Berber camp in canvas tents, rising early the following day to catch the sunrise over the desert. You will then begin your return trip, passing through Ouarzazate, Alnif and Tazarine on the way towards Marrakech. You will also pass the World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou and be given time to explore it’s wonders before returning to your hotel in the centre of Morocco.
