Overview
Toubkal Experience trek, is the ideal itinerary to do over a weekend as your trek will take 3 days. It is also the perfect choice for those who enjoy a strenuous challenge within a limited time. Your trek begins in Imlil where you will ascend to Refuge Nelter 3200m via Sidi Chamharouch 2310m, a pre-Islamic saint’s mausoleum. The following morning you will have an early wake up call in order to climb to the summit of Jebel Toubkal 4167m. Toubkal is the highest peak in Morocco and Western Africa and the views from here are breathe-taking. You will trek back down to the refuge to take a well earnt rest and stay overnight. On the last day you will retrace your steps back down to Imlil and be transferred back to Marrakech.

Trek grade
Moderate – strenuous, boots required; you need to reasonably confident of your fitness, preferably having had some previous experience of trekking and changes in climate.
It is recommended that you bring (depending upon season):Â good walking boots; sleeping bag (3 seasons); waterproofs and fleece/duvet jackets, hats, balaclavas or ear muffs; gloves; rambler or ski pole; personal toiletries; small First Aid kit, thermal underwear (Dec-May); day pack; filled water bottles; torch and batteries (LED head torches are excellent), penknife (remember not to pack in hand baggage for flight); towel, sunscreen, insect repellent, hygienic wipes, nibbles and/or dried fruit. Drinking chocolate if preferred to tea and coffee, camping mug (otherwise it is small Moroccan tea glasses for everything), energy sweets and toilet rolls could come in handy!

 Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil (1,740m)
Early morning private transfer from Marrakech to the village of Imlil (2 hours). Imlil is (1740m) set in the upper-level foothills of the High Atlas Mountains, a main trail-head with streams and paths branching out in all directions. Here we shall leave our vehicle And greeted by welcome glass of mint tea in the village and meet your local guide you will set off trekking towards the village of Aroumd (Aremd) (1843m), passing the hamlets of ait Souka, Targa, and Imoula, up and down the stark slopes, the jagged Western High Atlas peaks of the Toubkal Massif before us – Jbels Aguelzim (3547m), Aksouâl (3847m) and the Adrar Adj (3122m) watching us all the way. We stop at Aroumd to visit this rather singular village in the Assif Aït Mizane Valley, built seemingly house upon house on a large moraine spur, overlooking ancient irrigated terraced fields of barley, corn, and vegetables. We’ll then carry on for another Half an hour to get to our lunch stop, which will be served among a Berber familly in the village of ait Souka.

Day 2: Imlil to Mt Toubkal Base Camp (3,207m)
Embark on a trek through the picturesque Mizane Valley, passing by the village of Aremd and the revered shrine of Sidi Chamarouch. Follow mule tracks that lead you up the magnificent rocky cliffs, crossing the river along the way. Reach the renowned shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims. Ascend steadily, navigating the trail’s twists and turns, until you reach the snowline and the Toukbal Refuge (3207m), where you will spend the night.

Day 3: Base Camp to Mount Toubkal (4,167m) – Marrakech
Rise and shine at the crack of dawn to conquer the magnificent Jebel Toubkal, the crown jewel of Northern Africa. With sheer determination, you’ll ascend the highest peak in the region, seeking breathtaking vistas that extend as far as the eye can see. Weather permitting, marvel at the awe-inspiring southern landscapes, where the sprawling Siroua Mountains, adorned with the richness of Moroccan culture and saffron fields, stretch out before you. Gaze westward to catch a glimpse of the majestic M’Goun, a sight to behold when the skies are crystal clear. On this unforgettable expedition, the vast plain of Haouz will unfold beneath your feet, leaving you in awe of nature’s grandeur.
After reaching the summit, a well-deserved sense of accomplishment will accompany you as you trace your steps back. Descend through the rugged terrain, passing by the welcoming refuge that has provided respite to many adventurers before you. Following a well-trodden path, you’ll make your way back to Imlil, the starting point of this extraordinary adventure.
Please note that this day entails a substantial amount of trekking, involving an ascent of 900 meters and a descent of nearly 2,500 meters back to Imlil. It’s a challenging yet rewarding journey that will test your stamina and reward you with unparalleled natural beauty.
